DIRECTRESS KATE RIEDL, of Compulsive Pictures

created the PSA campaign for the CANCER VIXEN FUNd, (US) a non-profit orgainization dedicated to helping uninsured women in New York get free mammograms. The spots were inspired by the real-life story of Marisa Acocella Marchetto, a cartoonist for the New Yorker magazine who was diagonsed with and sucessfully beat breast cancer in 2004. While undergoing chemotherapy, Marchetto created and published her graphic memoir "Cancer Vixen" starring a feisty, artsy, urban cosmopolitan woman whose fabulous life is temporarily interrupted by her illness. Shortly after publication, Marchetto founded the Cancer Vixen Fund to help other women who find themselves in her predicament. Riedl, whose own mother had breast cancer, was hooked up with the author via Compulsive's Head of Sales, Meredyth Mann. The director's concepts for the PSAs came out of the ideas in Marchetto's book...
