Fund Provides Free Mammograms At St. Vincent’s Hospital
For New York City’s Uninsured Women Screening Breast Cancer

NEW YORK, NY – The Cancer Vixen Fund, founded by cancer-survivor, author and cartoonist Marisa Acocella Marchetto, is hosting "The 3rd Annual No Breast Left Behind Gala," a fabulous fundraiser to benefit uninsured and underinsured women in New York City, on Wednesday, October 28th from 6:30 p.m. through 9:30 p.m. at the LREI (Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School, 40 Charlton Street in Manhattan.) Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Cancer Vixen Fund, which sponsors free mammogram screenings for uninsured and underinsured women in New York City through Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers (Saint Vincent’s.) "Mammograms and self exams are the best weapons we have to detect breast cancer – early, when treatment is the most effective," said founder Marisa Acocella Marchetto. "If we are going to beat this disease, we need to help every woman get screened regardless of their health insurance coverage and make sure that no breast gets left behind!" Health insurance is the biggest issue in the nation today and the Cancer Vixen Fund also wants to help every woman in NYC learn they have options to gain proper health insurance today.

The evening will be hosted by T.V. personality, designer and celebrity stylist, Robert Verdi, CNN Anchor Alina Cho and "the original Cancer Vixen" Marisa Acocella Marchetto. Breast cancer survivor and Estee Lauder executive, Evelyn Lauder will be honored as the Patron Saint of Breast Cancer for her tremendous efforts to raise awareness of the disease. She will receive the Cancer Vixen Fund’s first annual Golden Shoe Award. The night will also feature a live auction led by Christie’s Lydia Fenet and The Soprano’s Steve Schirippa.

The fundraising event will be one of the top charitable events in NYC this fall with leaders from business, healthcare, politics, entertainment and sports all coming together to help. Invited celebrity guests include actor Leonardo DiCaprio, actor Jose Pesci, actress Cate Blanchet, actress Brooke Shields, singer Billy Joel, singer Melissa Etheridge, model and actress, Elizabeth Hurley, N.Y. Jet Kerry Rhodes, N.Y. Giant Eli Manning and many other celebrities.

About the CANCER VIXEN FUNd

The Cancer Vixen Fund, founded in 2006 by Marisa Acocella Marchetto, a cancer-survivor, author and cartoonist for the New Yorker and Glamour magazines. Acocella Marchetto was uninsured when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. She received treatment at St. Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. As someone who learned first-hand the importance of having health insurance and breast cancer screening and early diagnosis, Marisa co-founded the Cancer Vixen Fund at St. Vincent’s Hospital to help provide uninsured women with potentially life-saving mammogram screenings and education themselves. The Fund has raised over $350,000 since 2006.

Thanks to the Cancer Vixen Fund, St. Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center will open its doors to all uninsured and underinsured women on National Mammography Day, Friday, October 16th, for free mammograms screenings.
